Deenabandhu Teacher Resource Center
The Deenabandhu Teacher Resource Center (TRC), located in Chamarajanagar district, Karnataka, an initiative of the Deenabandhu Trust, is dedicated to transforming classroom education in schools in the region. The TRC grew out of the novel teaching practices developed at the Deenabandhu School, which has long followed child-centered and experiential learning methodologies.
The TRC serves as a center for teachers, educators, and students, promoting experiential learning methods in classrooms. Our mission is to empower teachers with skills and tools that make classroom teaching more meaningful, engaging, and relevant to local contexts.
Objectives
To enhance experiential and conceptual education in Chamarajanagar by supporting teachers in shifting from rote learning to interactive, hands-on, activity-based teaching methods.
To empower government school teachers by providing professional development programmes, access to innovative teaching resources, and curriculum support for effective learning.
To share resources, knowledge, and insights from educational innovations at Deenabandhu School with other schools and educational organizations for broader impact.
To foster scientific literacy, spark curiosity, and inspire excitement about science through interactive exhibits, immersive experiences, and engaging hands-on activities.
To cultivate a scientific temperament in the community by engaging schools, families, and local groups through science fairs, sky-watching sessions, tree-planting activities, and other interactive initiatives.
Activities

Teacher Workshops & Training
We conduct workshops that engage teachers in creating their own Teaching Learning Materials (TLMs) and designing experiential methods for classroom learning.

Developing Low-cost Teaching-Learning Materials (TLMs)
We focus on designing and demonstrating low-cost TLMs made from easily available resources. These materials make abstract concepts tangible, helping teachers bring learning to life even in resource-limited classrooms.

Vijnana Loka (Science World)
Our two-acre science campus named the Vijnana Loka offers children an immersive day of exploration through a Science Park, Fun Science Gallery, chemistry shows, and toy-making workshops.

Workshops for School Children
We host interactive, hands-on science sessions for students from various schools. Through experiments, games, and exploration, children experience the joy of discovery and develop curiosity toward science.

Learning Centers
Learning Centers are small labs within selected government schools that make science and math learning hands-on and engaging. Many TRC outreach activities are planned around schools that host these centers.

Mobile Science Van
Our Mobile Science Van carries science experiments and materials to schools without labs, helping students explore science concepts through practical, hands-on activities.

Science Talent Award
The annual competition is organized for government school students to design and showcase science projects. Selected schools are provided guidance and resources, and top projects are awarded during a formal ceremony.

Biodiversity in Schools
This initiative connects children with nature and conservation. Saplings of rare native species are planted in schools, where students care for them, thus learning the importance of biodiversity.
